Mahabad: Mohammad Esmaeili-Azar Arrested and Transferred to Prison to Serve Sentence

Kamil (Mohammad) Esmaeili-Azar, a resident of Mahabad, has been arrested and transferred to Mahabad Central Prison to serve a six-month prison sentence.

According to Kolbarnews, on February 5, 2025, intelligence forces of the IRGC raided Mohammad Esmaeili-Azar’s home, arrested him with the use of force, and took him to prison.

Mohammad Esmaeili-Azar, 29 years old, from the village of Qaleh Hassan in Mahabad, is a father of two. He was previously sentenced by the Mahabad Revolutionary Court to 13 months of imprisonment, including 6 months in prison and 7 months under house arrest with an electronic ankle monitor.

He was first arrested in March 2024 when security forces violently raided his home. After months of detention, he was temporarily released on bail until his trial concluded.

The charge against him is alleged “collaboration with a Kurdish opposition party.”
