In two separate incidents in Zabol and Rasht counties, two workers lost their lives due to a lack of adequate safety measures at their workplaces.
According to Kulbarnews, Hashem Narouei, a married worker residing in Kouhak township, Zabol, died while digging a well on agricultural land due to a collapse. This tragic incident once again highlights the lack of safety measures in workplaces, particularly in high-risk jobs such as well-digging.
In another incident, a 46-year-old worker in Rasht died after falling from a height of 5 meters in Chal Kalabar. The head of Rasht’s Fire Department stated that the cause of the accident was a technical failure, as the elevator door opened while the cabin was on an upper floor.
In 2023, a total of 2,115 workers (2,094 men and 21 women) lost their lives in workplace-related incidents, an 11.3% increase compared to the previous year’s toll of 1,900.
Iran ranks 102nd globally in workplace safety, a very low position, and is considered one of the least safe countries in this area. Each year, a significant number of workers experience accidents due to unsafe working conditions.
