Farhad Sheikhi, a Kurdish labor activist from Saqqez, who was previously sentenced to eight months in prison by the Alborz Court of Appeals, is currently serving his sentence at the Central Detention Center in Karaj.
According to Kulbarnews, Farhad Sheikhi was arrested in late September 2024 after appearing at Branch 1 of the Criminal Enforcement Office of the General and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Hashtgerd. He was then transferred to the Central Detention Center in Karaj to serve his prison term.
It has been reported that on November 5, Sheikhi was placed in solitary confinement at the detention center as a punitive measure for five days. On November 10, he was returned to Ward 15 of the facility.
On September 30, 2024, the Alborz Court of Appeals sentenced Shikhi to eight months in prison, two years of exile in the city of Divandarreh, a two-year travel ban, and a two-year prohibition from residing in Alborz and Tehran provinces.
Shikhi was initially arrested on May 28, 2023, by security forces at his residence in Hashtgerd and subsequently transferred to Rajaei Shahr Prison in Karaj. On June 13, 2023, after being formally charged at the Hashtgerd Prosecutor’s Office, he was temporarily released from the Central Detention Center in Karaj on a bail of 100 million tomans.
In July 2024, Branch 1 of the Karaj Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Seyed Mousa Asaf Al-Hosseini, sentenced Shikhi to one year in prison, two years of exile in Divandarreh, a two-year travel ban, and a two-year ban on residing in Alborz and Tehran provinces following his exile. His initial trial was held on June 20, 2024.
Shikhi has previously been arrested and sentenced for his labor activism. He was released from prison on February 7, 2023, under a general amnesty directive.
