Ilam: Hunger Strike of Mohammad Daniali in Protest of Prison Conditions

Mohammad Daniali, a political prisoner held in Ilam Central Prison, has gone on a hunger strike in protest of the dire psychological conditions and inhumane circumstances within the prison.

According to Kolbarnews, on Sunday, May 4th, 2025, Mohammad Daniali, a 24-year-old cultural and civil activist and a member of the “Benar” mountaineering group in Abdanan, and currently a political prisoner in Ilam Central Prison, began a hunger strike to protest the deteriorating mental health conditions and inhumane treatment inside the prison.

On Saturday, March 15th, 2025, Mohammad Daniali was transferred to Ilam Prison to serve a two-year sentence. He had previously been sentenced to two years in prison, including time served, on charges including “assembly and collusion against national security.”

Daniali was initially arrested in July–August 2023 by security forces in Dehloran and was later released on bail. His earlier arrest occurred on May 14th, 2023, when he was detained by security forces in Dehloran without a judicial warrant, and was released on bail from Ilam Detention Center in June–July 2023.

Mohammad Daniali is a 24-year-old mountaineer from the city of Abdanan.
