The Gulf Centre for Human Rights (GCHR) has issued an urgent appeal expressing grave concern over the imminent risk of execution faced by Sharifeh Mohammadi, a prominent Iranian woman human rights defender and labor activist.

According to Kolbarnews and the GCHR statement, published on August 30, 2025, Sharifeh Mohammadi’s case reflects the increasingly hostile environment for activists and independent voices in the country. The center warns that Iran’s authorities continue to target individuals who advocate for freedom of assembly, women’s rights, and labor rights, using harsh sentences and intimidation tactics to silence dissent.
GCHR stated:
“We call on the Iranian authorities to immediately release all human rights defenders, protesters, and other prisoners who have been detained in violation of their rights to freedom of assembly and expression. We further urge the suspension of all executions and the protection of detainees’ basic rights.”
The organization also condemned the threats and harassment faced by other activists.
Sharifeh Mohammadi, a dedicated labor rights advocate, was arrested in December 2023 in Rasht by security forces. Following her arrest, she was reportedly held in solitary confinement, denied access to legal representation, and restricted from contacting her family. Despite widespread international criticism, Iran’s judicial authorities have persisted in issuing and upholding harsh sentences against her.
GCHR emphasized the urgency of international solidarity to prevent Mohammadi’s execution, stating that global pressure is now critical to protecting her life and defending the rights of all activists in Iran. The organization called on governments, human rights groups, and international institutions to intervene immediately and demand that Iranian authorities respect international human rights standards.
Since the ruling, there has been a growing wave of global condemnation.
International organizations, including Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and the Center for Human Rights in Iran, have demanded Sharifeh Mohammadi’s immediate release and urged Iran to halt its campaign of repression against independent labor activists and human rights defenders.
