Esfarayen; Death of a Kurdish Kormanj Young man by Direct Live Gunfire

Reza Khanzadeh, a 19-year-old Kurdish Kormanj and a resident of Esfarayen County in Razavi Khorasan Province, is another of those killed in the nationwide protests who lost his life during the street crackdown.

According to Kolbarnews, on Thursday, January 8, 2026, Reza Khanzadeh was targeted by direct live gunfire from suppressive forces of the Islamic Republic during nationwide protests in the city of Esfarayen and was killed after being shot in the heart.

According to received information, this Kurdish Kormanj young man worked as a fruit seller, and his body was buried after several days, on January 13, 2026, in one of the cemeteries of the village of Sarmaran, a district of Esfarayen.

The killing of Reza Khanzadeh has sparked a wave of grief and anger among his family, relatives, and local residents, and has increased concerns about the continued use of live ammunition against protesters.
