Mehdi Majidi, a political prisoner who had been serving his three-year prison sentence under electronic monitoring outside prison, was arrested again yesterday and returned to Bukan Prison.

According to Kolbarnews, on Sunday, October 5, 2025, Mehdi Majidi, who had been serving his three-year sentence under electronic surveillance outside prison, was arrested and transferred back to Bukan Prison following the cancellation of his electronic monitoring order.
On September 7, 2025, Branch 1 of the West Azerbaijan Province Court of Appeals, based on a request by the Prosecutor’s Office Enforcement Officer in Bukan, issued an order to revoke Mr. Majidi’s release under electronic monitoring.
The decision was reportedly made for reasons such as “failure to charge the device, leaving the designated area, repeatedly turning off the ankle monitor, and ignoring official warnings.”
Previously, on January 18, 2025, after serving eight months of his sentence, the West Azerbaijan Court of Appeals had approved his conditional release under electronic monitoring, limiting his movement to within a one-kilometer radius of Bukan Prison.
Mr. Majidi’s three-year prison sentence had been upheld in July 2024 by the West Azerbaijan Court of Appeals. He had initially been sentenced to four years and eight months in prison by Branch 101 of the Bukan Criminal Court (Section 2).
Mehdi Majidi was originally arrested on November 6, 2023, by security forces and transferred to one of the intelligence detention centers in Urmia. He was later moved to Bukan Prison and released on December 28, 2023, after posting bail.
