The prison sentence of Matin Hassani, one of the victims of the November 2019 protests, has been converted to semi-open detention, allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence outside of Bukan prison.
According to reports from Kolbarnews, Matin Hassani was released on bail yesterday and will complete the rest of his sentence under semi-open detention outside the prison.
Matin Hassani, who lost the sight in one of his eyes during the nationwide protests in November 2019, had entered Bukan prison on August 27, 2024, to serve his sentence.
In July 2024, Matin Hassani had been sentenced to 31 months in prison by the 101st Branch of the Bukan Criminal Court. He was initially arrested by security forces without a judicial warrant at his family’s home on January 23, 2024, and was released on bail on February 22, 2024.
His trial took place on May 16, 2024, where he faced charges of “inciting people to fight and kill each other with the intent to disrupt national security” and “propaganda against the regime.”
In November 2019, at the age of 19, Matin Hassani lost the sight in one of his eyes after being shot during protests in Bukan.
