Three days after the arrest of Esmail Saniar, a civil activist and former political prisoner from Bukan, no information is available about his whereabouts or condition.
According to Kolbarnews, in the early morning of Wednesday, July 2, 2025, agents of the Intelligence Department raided this Bukan resident’s home without presenting a judicial warrant, arrested him, and transferred him to an undisclosed location.
As of the time of this report, no details are available regarding the reason for his arrest, his place of detention, or the charges brought against him.
Esmail Saniar had previously been arrested in December 2015 on charges of cooperating with human rights organizations. He was interrogated and later released on bail. Although he was initially acquitted of all charges, in December 2016, the Court of Appeals sentenced him to three years of discretionary imprisonment for “acting against national security.” After serving about one year of this sentence, Saniar was released in April 2020, as part of a Nowruz amnesty.
