Elaheh Mohammadi has previously faced arrest and conviction due to her professional activities. She was released from Evin Prison in January 2024 after posting bail. At the appeal stage, she was acquitted of the charge of “cooperation with the hostile government of the United States,” but her sentences of five years’ imprisonment for “assembly and collusion against national security” and one year for “propaganda activity against the state” were upheld.
Ultimately, her case was declared closed in February 2025 following the application of a special amnesty. Her recent short-term detention has occurred without any clear explanation regarding the reasons for this action or her current legal status.
