Sanandaj: Citizen Falls Into a Coma While Fighting Marivan Forest Fires

Rebin Gorani, a resident of Marivan, has fallen into a coma after suffering severe smoke and gas poisoning while attempting to contain a forest fire in the region. On August 26, 2025, his vital signs deteriorated, and he eventually lost consciousness. He is currently being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Tohid Hospital in Sanandaj.

According to Kolbarnews, a citizen attempting to extinguish the Hanjiran Forest fire in Marivan was poisoned by inhaling smoke and toxic gases.

The individual has been identified as Rebin Gorani, a resident of Sawa village, located in Marivan County.

Reports indicate that last week, a massive wildfire broke out in the Hanjiran forests of Marivan. Motivated by his dedication to protecting nature, Mr. Gorani rushed to the fire site at night. However, within the first few hours, he experienced dizziness and severe respiratory distress. After returning to his village, he went to Marivan Hospital, but despite his worsening condition, he was not admitted during the first two days.

Only on the third day, after experiencing severe vomiting and a significant decline in his overall health, Mr. Gorani was finally hospitalized and treated. Nevertheless, on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, his condition deteriorated further, his vital signs became unstable, and he fell into a coma. He was later transferred to Tohid Hospital in Sanandaj, where he remains in the ICU under critical care.

Medical experts explain that smoke inhalation poisoning often begins with mild symptoms such as headache and shortness of breath, but as toxic substances accumulate in the body, it can lead to lung and brain damage. Without timely medical intervention, low blood oxygen levels may result in shock, coma, and the need for ICU admission or transfer to a more advanced medical facility.
