Saman Yasin, a Kurdish artist and protesting rapper, has been sentenced to five years in prison and exile to Kerman.
According to Kolbarnews, in a decree issued today, Sunday, April 21, 2024, Saman Yasin, a Kurdish artist and rapper from Kermanshah and one of the detainees of the Jina uprising, was sentenced by Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court under the chairmanship of Judge Amouzadeh to five years in prison and exile to a prison in the city of Babak in Kerman Province.
The trial on Mr. Yasin’s charges was held on April 17, 2024, in the mentioned branch, and the verdict was officially communicated today, April 21, in person to his defense lawyer. Hossein Sertipi, Saman Yasin’s lawyer, stated that he would object to this verdict in the Supreme Court for final adjudication.
After the annulment of the death sentence of this protesting artist, his charges were declared as “gathering and collusion with the intent to commit a crime against national security” and “carrying weapons with the intent to disrupt public order and peace.”
Mr. Yasin was sentenced to death on the 7th of Aban 1401, by the General and Revolutionary Court of Tehran, chaired by Judge Salavati, on charges of “waging war” which was ultimately overturned by the Supreme Court on the 1st of Dey of the same year.
Saman Yasin was arrested on the 10th of Mehr 1401 on charges of supporting the popular protests in Tehran by the security forces of the city, at his personal residence, and was transferred to Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj after interrogation.
It is worth noting that Saman Yasin attempted suicide by taking pills during his detention in Ward 3 of Rajai Shahr Prison in protest against the harsh detention conditions. Additionally, this artist has faced numerous instances of psychological and mental torture during his 18 months of detention by prison authorities.
