Matin Yazdani, a women’s rights activist, has been granted medical leave from Lakan Prison in Rasht.
According to Kolbarnews, Matin Yazdani was granted medical leave until July 20, 2024. She, along with Forough Sami’nia, Jelveh Javaheri, Negin Rezaei, Shiva Shah-Siah, and Azadeh Chavoshian, had been arrested and transferred to Lakan Prison in Rasht to serve their sentences.
Their case, along with five other women’s rights activists in Gilan—Sara Jahani, Yasmin Heshdari, Zahra Dadras, Zohreh Dadras, and Hooman Taheri—was referred to the Execution of Sentences Branch of Rasht’s Prosecutor’s Office in late June of this year. These activists were separately arrested by security forces in Gilan in late August 2023 and were released on bail from Lakan Prison after some time.
On February 29, 2024, their joint trial was held in Branch 3 of the Revolutionary Court of Rasht, presided over by Judge Mehdi Raskhi. Their initial sentences were communicated to them in early April 2024. On May 28, 2024, Branch 11 of the Gilan Court of Appeals, presided over by Judge Mohammad Sadegh Iran Aqideh, upheld their sentences.
According to the issued verdict, Zohreh Dadras was sentenced to 9 years, 6 months, and 2 days in prison; Forough Sami’nia, Sara Jahani, Yasmin Heshdari, Shiva Shah-Siah, Negin Rezaei, Azadeh Chavoshian, Zahra Dadras, and Matin Yazdani each received 6 years, 1 month, and 17 days in prison; and Jelveh Javaheri and Hooman Taheri each received 1 year in prison.
On Wednesday, July 10, 2024, Zohreh (Fatemeh) Dadras and Zahra Dadras were arrested to serve their sentences and were transferred to Lakan Prison in Rasht.
