Kahnooj: Two Baloch Sukhtbars, including a 17-year-old, killed by military gunfire and vehicle fire

Two Baloch Sukhtbars, including a 17-year-old minor, were killed in Kahnooj after military forces opened fire on their vehicle, causing it to catch fire.

According to Kolbarnews, on the morning of Monday, September 29, 2025, military forces pursued and shot at a Sukhtbari vehicle in Kahnooj County. After a bullet struck one of its tires, the vehicle overturned and went up in flames. Both occupants, including a child Sukhtbar, lost their lives in the incident.

The deceased Sukhtbars have been identified as Beniyamin Narouyi, 17, son of Habib, and Abdolbaset Narouyi, 27, son of Asadollah. Both were residents of Qaleh Ganj County.

Reports state that due to severe injuries and being trapped amid the flames, they were unable to escape the vehicle and ultimately lost their lives.

Sukhtbari is considered one of the unconventional and dangerous jobs that many Baloch people in Balochistan have been forced to turn to due to the lack of suitable and stable employment. Accidents, vehicle overturns, and direct gunfire from military and security forces are among the dangers that threaten the lives of these Sukhtbars. According to reports from Baloch activists, in the year 2024, at least 375 Baloch Sukhtbars have been injured or lost their lives due to shootings by military forces, traffic accidents, and vehicle fires. Of this number, 240 Sukhtbars were killed and 135 were injured, representing a 55% increase in the number of killed and injured Sukhtbars compared to the year 2023.
