ITUC Condemns Death Sentence of Iranian Labor Activist Sharifeh Mohammadi

The International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), the world’s largest labor organization, representing over 200 million workers across 163 countries, has strongly condemned the Iranian Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the death sentence of imprisoned labor activist Sharifeh Mohammadi.

In its statement, the ITUC highlighted that:
Sharifeh Mohammadi has been falsely accused of “armed rebellion against the state,” despite her long-standing peaceful advocacy for labor rights and women’s rights.

In October 2024, Iran’s Supreme Court overturned her original death sentence, citing serious legal flaws. Yet in February 2025, another chamber reinstated the sentence after what the ITUC described as a grossly unfair and politically motivated process.
Since her arrest on December 5, 2023, Sharifeh has reportedly faced torture, prolonged solitary confinement, and denial of basic fair trial rights.

The ITUC warned that this ruling is a clear violation of Iran’s obligations under international labor conventions and called on the global community to demand the immediate and unconditional release of Sharifeh Mohammadi.
