Branch One of the Islamic Revolutionary Court in Isfahan has issued a death sentence for Toomaj Salehi, an imprisoned artist.
According to Kolbarnews, on Wednwsday, April 24, 2024, Branch One of the Islamic Revolutionary Court in Isfahan issued a death sentence for Toomaj Salehi, an imprisoned artist. Toomaj Salehi’s lawyer, Amir Reisian, has deemed this sentence legally flawed and has stated that they intend to appeal. Additionally, the court will review a request for a sentence reduction considering Toomaj’s youth.
Reisian, in an interview with the Shargh network, called this sentence “unprecedented” and criticized the statements of the Isfahan Revolutionary Court branch. He stated that this branch of the court did not execute the Supreme Court’s ruling but instead issued a death sentence for Toomaj.
The Isfahan Revolutionary Court has brought various charges against Toomaj Salehi, including earth corruption, and emphasizing the widespread nature of this corruption, has issued the death sentence.
Toomaj’s lawyer has stated that while the judiciary has violated the Supreme Court’s ruling, which ruled against the original court’s decision, it had previously not proven the charge of earth corruption.
