Iranshahr: Death of Three Baloch Sukhtbars in a Road Accident

Three Baloch Sukhtbars tragically lost their lives due to a collision and subsequent fire involving two vehicles in Iranshahr.

According to Kolbarnews, citing sources from Balochistan, on Sunday, September 8, 2024, two Sukhtbari vehicles collided and caught fire on the Bazman to Bampur road, near the Kaskin checkpoint in Iranshahr. As a result of the fire, three Baloch Sukhtbars lost their lives due to severe burns.

The Sukhtbars have been identified as Mehdi Atashfaraz, 18, Amrullah Dari, 31, both from Daman village in Iranshahr, and Behrouz Narouei, from Bazman and a resident of Iranshahr.

Sukhtbari is considered an unconventional and hazardous job that many Baluch people in Baluchistan are forced into due to the lack of suitable and stable employment. Accidents, vehicle rollovers, and direct shootings by military and security forces are some of the dangers that Sukhtbars face.

According to reports from Baluch activists, in the first six months of 2024, at least 133 Baluch Sukhtbars have died from shootings by military forces, traffic accidents, and vehicle fires, with another 80 injured in these incidents, including nine children.
