A 5-year-old Baloch child tragically lost his life after falling into a water-filled pit (known as “hootak”) caused by rain and floods in the Dashtiyari district.
According to Kolbernews, on Wednesday,April 17, 1403, a Baloch child named “Sedna Jedgal,” aged 5 and son of Abdul Basit (Sattar), from the village of Kach in the Dashtiyari district, lost her life after falling into a hootak. It is reported that Sedna had gone near the hootak during rainfall and floods, where she fell in and tragically drowned.
With Sedna’s passing, the confirmed number of casualties due to floods and rain in Balochistan and Baloch-inhabited areas has risen to 11, with two individuals still missing.
Hootak, or hootag, is a dug pit used for storing water, primarily for agricultural purposes, but in recent years, due to the water crisis in Balochistan, people have been using hootak water for drinking and household purposes.
According to the Baloch Activists Campaign, in 2023 alone, a total of 98 cases of child rights violations have been recorded in Balochistan. At least 27 children have been killed, 17 children injured, 3 children have drowned, 38 children have been detained, and tragically, one child bride has been killed by gunshot.
