More than half of fatal work-related incidents occur in construction sites.
According to Kolbarnews and based on the latest statistics published by the Ministry of Labor, construction sites, especially those with fewer than 20 workers, face the highest rate of occupational accidents in the country. These statistics reveal that over 38% of all work-related accidents and about 50% of work-related fatalities occur in this sector.
Despite only 4 to 5% of all insured workers being employed in the construction industry, this sector experiences the majority of occupational accidents. This indicates a serious crisis in safety within construction workplaces.
Human factors play a crucial role in construction accidents. Over 80% of accidents in this sector are due to the lack of adherence to safety guidelines, carelessness, and inadequate training of workers.
It’s notable that in the year March 2023 – March 2024, a total of 2,115 workers (2,094 men and 21 women) lost their lives in work-related accidents. This is an 11.3% increase compared to the previous year, which recorded 1,900 fatalities.
Iran ranks 102nd globally in terms of workplace safety compliance, a very low ranking indicating significant deficiencies in this area.
