The director of the Tehran Municipality’s Organization for Social Services and Partnerships has reported the identification of 3,600 child workers in the city over the past year.
According to Kolbarnews, Seyed Mohammad Naghib, the organization’s director, announced this figure and stated that centers called “Pouyashahr” have been established to organize and educate these children. Currently, 40 Pouyashahr centers are operational in Tehran, providing education to 5,500 children.
The growing number of child workers in Tehran highlights the severe social and economic challenges facing the metropolis. Poverty, unemployment, lack of equal opportunities, and insufficient educational facilities are among the main factors driving children toward labor.
