The Supreme Court of Iran has overturned the death sentences of Rezgar Beigzadeh Babamiri, Pezhman Soltani, Ali (Soran) Ghasemi, Kaveh Salehi, and Teifour Salimi Babamiri, who were detained during the Jina revolutionary protests and had previously been sentenced to death by the Urmia Revolutionary Court.

According to Kolbarnews, the Supreme Court annulled the death verdicts issued against these five individuals, who were arrested during the nationwide protests of 2022. Their cases have now been referred to the Mahabad Revolutionary Court for retrial.
It is noted that Teifour Salimi Babamiri, one of the five, left Iran after being temporarily released from detention.
These five individuals were jointly tried in a single case by the First Branch of the Urmia Revolutionary Court, which had sentenced them to execution and imprisonment.
The charges brought against them included “baghi” (armed rebellion against the state), “moharebeh” (enmity against God), and “leadership and formation of a rebel criminal group.” According to the court’s earlier verdicts, four of them were sentenced to multiple executions. The rulings were officially communicated to their defense attorneys on Monday, July 7, 2025.
Ali (Soran) Ghasemi, Pezhman Soltani, and Kaveh Salehi were each sentenced to three executions, Rezgar Beigzadeh Babamiri to two executions, and Teifour Salimi Babamiri to one execution on the same charges.
In addition, eight other defendants in the same case received prison sentences and fines.
Currently, Pezhman Soltani, Rezgar Beigzadeh Babamiri, Kaveh Salehi, and Ali (Soran) Ghasemi remain imprisoned in Urmia Prison. They had previously been convicted on charges of killing a security officer, for which they had received sentences ranging from execution to 10–15 years in prison.
Pezhman Soltani, Rezgar Beigzadeh Babamiri, Ali (Soran) Ghasemi, and Kaveh Salehi were arrested in April 2023, while Tifour Salimi Babamiri was detained in March 2023, and released after about 18 months in custody.
