Urmia: Solmaz Hassanzadeh Continues Hunger Strike in Solitary Confinement

Solmaz Hassanzadeh, the sister of Mohammad Hassanzadeh, who was killed during the nationwide protests of 2022, continues to be held in Urmia prison without any formal charges. She is now on the seventh day of her hunger strike in solitary confinement.

According to Kolbarnews, Solmaz Hassanzadeh remains on hunger strike in Urmia prison. She has been held in solitary confinement since Tuesday, August 6, in protest against her ongoing detention without charges, her uncertain legal status, and being denied the right to contact or visit her family.

On July 30, 2024, Solmaz Hassanzadeh and her father were arrested by security forces while they were attempting to hold a ceremony for Mohammad’s birthday. The day after the arrest, Ahmad Hassanzadeh was released on bail of 4 billion tomans, but at the same time, his daughter was transferred to Urmia prison.

Previously, on September 5, 2023, Solmaz Hassanzadeh had been detained at a checkpoint between Bukan and Saqqez by security forces but was released after some time. Additionally, both Solmaz and her father had been summoned and interrogated by the Intelligence Office in Bukan on September 5, 2023.

It’s worth noting that Mohammad Hassanzadeh, a 28-year-old resident of Bukan, was shot and killed during the nationwide protests of 2022, succumbing to his injuries on November 16 of that year.
