Saravan: A Baloch Sukhtbar Injured by Military Gunfire

A Baloch Sukhtbar was seriously injured after being shot in the leg by border forces in Godar Nahouk, Saravan.

According to Kolbernews, in the early hours of Sunday, February 2, 2025, Parviz Mazarzehi, a 22-year-old resident of Saravan, was riding his motorcycle in the border area of Godar Nahouk when he was shot without prior warning by border guards.

Local sources report that border forces ambushed Sukhtbars on motorcycles without issuing any warning. The gunfire hit Mazarzehi in the leg, and his motorcycle caught fire as a result.

This incident has once again raised concerns over the use of lethal force against Baloch Sukhtbars, who often face deadly encounters with security forces.

Sukhtbari considered one of the unconventional and dangerous occupations that many Baloch people in Balochistan are forced to engage in due to the lack of suitable and stable employment opportunities. Accidents, vehicle overturns, and direct shootings by military and security forces are some of the dangers that threaten the lives of Sukhtbars. According to reports by Baloch activists, in 2024, at least 240 Baloch Sukhtbars lost their lives due to shootings by military forces, traffic accidents, and vehicle fires, while 135 others were injured in these incidents, 19 of whom were children.
