The conviction of Bayan Salehian, an internal medicine specialist from Saqqez and resident of Urmia, was fully upheld by Branch 9 of the West Azerbaijan Court of Appeals. Previously, she had been sentenced by Branch 111 of the Urmia Criminal Court to five months in prison and a fine of 15 million tomans.

According to Kolbarnews, the West Azerbaijan Court of Appeals confirmed the original conviction against Bayan Salehian, an internal medicine doctor from Saqqez, requiring her to serve a prison term and pay a monetary fine. Based on this report and the ruling issued in April by Branch 9 of the West Azerbaijan Court of Appeals which has been officially communicated to Ms. Salehian she was sentenced to five months of imprisonment and a fine of 15 million tomans on charges of “spreading false information with the intent to disturb public opinion in cyberspace.”
Previously, in January 2025, Branch 111 of the Criminal Court Two at the Shahid Beheshti Judicial Complex in Urmia had sentenced Ms. Salehian in the initial trial to imprisonment and a fine.
In a separate part of the same case, the Urmia Revolutionary Court had earlier convicted her of “propaganda against the regime,” sentencing her to pay a fine of 40 million tomans. That part of the case was closed following the execution of the sentence in February 2025.
Ms. Salehian was arrested by the Information Protection Unit of the Urmia Police Force in October 2024. After several hours of interrogation and the confiscation of her mobile phone, she was released.
Bayan Salehian, a doctor originally from Saqqez and now living in Urmia, has previously experienced arrest and conviction.
