Khabbat Amini has become the third environmental activist to lose his life while attempting to contain the massive wildfire on Abidar Mountain.

According to Kolbarnews, on Monday, July 28, 2025, Khabbat Amini, a civil and environmental activist from Sanandaj passed away after being hospitalized for four days due to severe burns sustained while battling the blaze.
The report states that Amini had been dispatched on Thursday, July 24, 2025, along with a group of volunteer citizens and environmental activists to help extinguish the fire on Abidar Mountain.
During the operation, he suffered extensive burns and was transferred to the hospital, where despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.
Previously, two other activists Hamid Moradi and Chiako Yousefnajad had also died as a result of the same wildfire. In addition, other activists including Mohsen Hoseinpanahi and Seyed Mostafa Hajir have sustained serious injuries and are currently under medical care.
Recurring wildfires across Kurdistan’s natural landscapes have become a serious environmental crisis in recent years. The lack of proper equipment and institutional support has forced environmental activists to intervene with minimal resources an ongoing situation that has already claimed dozens of lives and injured many more.
