Sanandaj: Continued Detention and Uncertainty Surrounding Labor Activist Jalil Mohammadi

After more than three weeks since the arrest of Jalil Mohammadi, a well-known labor activist, he remains in detention without any updates on his condition. His family’s concerns have been growing due to the lack of information about his whereabouts.

According to Kolbarnews, on Thursday, January 23, 2025, Jalil Mohammadi, a prominent figure in the labor movement and a member of the Committee for the Coordination of Labor Organizations, was arrested in Sanandaj by security forces. His arrest took place a day after widespread strikes by shopkeepers and merchants in several Kurdish cities, protesting against death sentences issued by the authorities. Since then, his whereabouts and legal status remain unknown.

Security forces reportedly arrested Jalil Mohammadi without presenting a judicial warrant. So far, no information has been disclosed regarding the reasons for his arrest, the charges against him, or where he is being held.

Jalil Mohammadi has previously faced arrests and judicial sentences due to his civil and labor rights activities.

On Wednesday, January 22, 2025, shopkeepers and business owners in cities such as Sanandaj, Saqqez, Kamiyaran, Divandarreh, and Marivan went on strike to protest the issuance of death sentences, shutting down their businesses in a display of civil disobedience.
