Piranshahr: Conversion of Esmail Nabizadeh’s Sentence to Open Prison

Esmail Nabizadeh, a resident of Piranshahr and one of those arrested during the 2022 nationwide protests, has had his prison sentence converted to open prison.

According to Kolbarnews, in recent days, the prison sentence of Esmail Nabizadeh, who was arrested during the 2022 nationwide protests in Piranshahr, has been converted to open prison by the Islamic Revolutionary Court. 

After serving approximately one year and nine months of his sentence, the request for open prison was finally approved, and the remainder of his sentence will be served under this arrangement. 

Reliable sources indicate that this decision was made upon posting a bail of five billion tomans.

On Thursday, September 22, 2022, Esmail Nabizadeh was arrested by security forces without a judicial warrant and taken to one of Urmia’s security detention centers for interrogation. Eventually, after completing the interrogation process, he was transferred to Naghadeh prison and later sentenced to five years in prison by Branch One of the Mahabad Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Ojaghloo, on charges of “membership in one of Iran’s opposition parties.”
