No Updates on Mehdi Jahangiri, Detained Worker from Golgun Industrial City, Three Days After His Arrest

Mehdi Jahangiri, a worker at Golgun Industrial City, remains missing three days after being arrested during a workers’ protest against frequent power outages in the industrial complex.

According to Kolbarnews, Mehdi Jahangiri, a former student at Tehran University and an active worker in the industrial city, was detained by security police on Tuesday after participating in a demonstration against repeated power cuts. Since his arrest, there has been no information on his whereabouts or condition.

Mehdi Jahangiri was previously recognized as a civil rights activist and had a history of involvement in labor movements. A graduate in engineering from Tehran University, his background raises further concerns about the motives behind his detention.

Jahangiri’s family has visited several local police stations near Golgun Industrial City, including stations in Saeedabad, Khademabad, Hasanabad Khaleseh, and Shahriar, in search of information about him. However, all these locations have denied having any knowledge about his case or his current location.

The demonstration where Jahangiri was arrested was organized by workers protesting frequent power outages that disrupted production processes. Eyewitnesses reported that Jahangiri was taken into custody by security forces after the protest ended, as he was leaving the site. Allegedly, he was separated from the group under the pretext of having a brief conversation with acquaintances, only to be detained shortly afterward.

This situation has raised significant concerns about Jahangiri’s well-being and the broader suppression of workers’ rights in the region.
