Nahbandan: Injury of Two Baloch Sukhtbars Following Vehicle Rollover Due to Military Spike Strips

Two Sukhtbar were injured when a Sukhtbari vehicle overturned after military forces deployed spike strips.

According to Kulbarnews, in the early hours of Wednesday, October 23, 2024, military forces stationed at the Sahel Abad checkpoint in Nahbandan County deployed spike strips under the wheels of a moving Sukhtbari vehicle, causing it to overturn and injuring its two passengers.

The injured individuals, identified as Amirhossein Kouhkan and Mohsen Kouhkan, are brothers from Zabol, has been confirmed.

Local sources report that around 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, military personnel under the command of Sahel Abad checkpoint chief “Hafezi” deployed spike strips to stop a Sukhtbari vehicle, causing it to overturn and injuring its two passengers.
One of the passengers was trapped inside the vehicle, and the military forces refused to assist in extracting him.

It’s worth noting that there have been numerous reports of harassment of Sukhtbars and Baloch citizens with Sistan and Baluchestan license plates by checkpoint chief Mr. Hafezi at Sahel Abad.

Sukhtbari is considered an unconventional and hazardous job that many Baluch people in Baluchistan are forced into due to the lack of suitable and stable employment. Accidents, vehicle rollovers, and direct shootings by military and security forces are some of the dangers that Sukhtbars face. According to reports from Baluch activists, in the first six months of 2024, at least 133 Baluch Sukhtbars have died from shootings by military forces, traffic accidents, and vehicle fires, with another 80 injured in these incidents, including nine children.
