Medical Leave for Saman Seydi (Yasin) from Prison

Saman Seydi, also known as Saman Yasin, a Kurdish protest singer and rapper, has been released on medical leave after two years in prison, following the posting of bail.

According to Kolbarnews, on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, Saman Seydi (Saman Yasin) was granted medical leave after posting four billion tomans in bail. He had been imprisoned for two years. Saman Yasin was originally arrested on October 29, 2022, and charged with “moharebeh” (waging war against God). He was sentenced to death by the Tehran Public and Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Salavati. However, this death sentence was overturned by the Supreme Court on December 22, 2022.

On April 17, 2024, a new trial was held at Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran, where Saman Yasin was sentenced to five years in prison and exile to Kerman. This verdict was officially communicated to his lawyer on April 21, 2024. His lawyer, Hossein Sartipi, stated that he would appeal this sentence in the Supreme Court.

Following the overturning of his death sentence, Saman Yasin faced new charges of “colluding to commit crimes against national security” and “carrying a weapon with the intent to disturb public order and peace.”

Saman Yasin was initially arrested on September 30, 2022, by security forces at his home in Tehran, after expressing support for public protests. He was then transferred to Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj for interrogation.

It is worth mentioning that during his detention in Ward 31 of Rajai Shahr Prison, Saman Yasin attempted suicide by taking pills to protest the harsh conditions of his imprisonment.
