Mahabad: Yasin Mostafapour Begins Dry Hunger Strike

Yasin Mostafapour, one of the detainees from the Jinah Revolutionary Uprising, has gone on a dry hunger strike in Mahabad Prison to protest his deprivation of prison facilities and security pressures.

According to Kolbarnews, on February 25, 2025, Yasin (Amanj) Mostafapour, who has been imprisoned since begin February 2024 to serve his sentence, started a dry hunger strike in protest against being denied basic prison facilities. This restriction was reportedly enforced by the IRGC Intelligence Protection Unit.
Reports indicate that he began his hunger strike on February 21, 2025, and his current condition remains unknown. Mostafapour, who has been held in solitary confinement for over a year, has been deprived of furlough and other prison amenities since his transfer to Mahabad Prison.

Yasin Mostafapour was arrested by IRGC intelligence forces in Mahabad during the December 2022 protests. After spending six months in temporary detention, he was released on bail. However, following final rulings from the Mahabad Criminal Court and the Revolutionary Court, he was re-arrested on February, 2024, to serve his prison sentence.

In September 2023, Branch 101 of the Mahabad Criminal Court, presided over by Judge Sajjad Dehghanzadeh, sentenced Mostafapour to five years in prison for “destruction and looting of property with force,” one year and six months for “participation in intentional destruction of property,” two years for “resisting military and law enforcement officers,” and one year and 74 lashes for “disturbing public order.” Under Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, the most severe sentence five years in prison was enforced. Additionally, in a separate case, the Mahabad Revolutionary Court sentenced him to two years in prison for “acting against national security.”

Throughout his imprisonment, Mostafapour has been denied furlough and basic prison rights. Reports indicate that the IRGC Intelligence Protection Unit has directly ordered that he be deprived of all facilities, including in-person visits, phone calls, and medical care. These harsh and inhumane conditions have pushed him to begin a dry hunger strike.

Yasin (Amanj) Mostafapour, 26, from Mahabad, was arrested during the nationwide protests of 2022 and is currently held in Mahabad Prison.
