Mahabad: Rahmat Abjameh Released After Completing Prison Sentence

Rahmat Abjameh, a political prisoner from the city of Mahabad, has been released from the city’s prison after serving his sentence.

According to Kolbarnews, on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, Rahmat Abjameh was freed after completing his prison term.

He had been transferred to Mahabad Prison on Monday, January 2, 2023, to serve his sentence. Abjameh was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison by the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Mahabad on charges of “membership in an opposition party” and “propaganda against the regime.” However, this sentence was reduced to two years upon appeal.

Rahmat Abjameh was arrested on June 22, 2022, without a judicial warrant by security forces. After interrogation, he was transferred from a security detention center in Urmia to Mahabad Prison on July 19, 2022. He was temporarily released on bail of 800 million tomans on September 1, 2022, pending the completion of his trial.

Abjameh is married and has one child.
