According to Kolbarnews, on the evening of Tuesday, October 28, 2025, Khezr (Shomal) Rasoul-Marovat was arrested at his home in Mahabad by security agents and subsequently transferred to an undisclosed location.
The report states that his arrest was carried out without the presentation of a judicial warrant.

It is worth noting that Khezr (Shomal) Rasoul-Marovat had been previously arrested in August 1999 and sentenced by the Mahabad Revolutionary Court to three years in prison and five years of suspended imprisonment. He was conditionally released after serving two years, but was barred from continuing his education at the master’s level.
He was again arrested in March 2013 for participating in a rally supporting the Shinabad schoolgirls, who had been injured in a tragic fire. He was held and interrogated for several months in the intelligence detention centers of Mahabad and Urmia.
In October 2013, the Mahabad Revolutionary Court sentenced him to five years in prison on the charge of “acting against national security”, a verdict later upheld by the Urmia Court of Appeals.
During his imprisonment, Rasoul-Marovat was transferred multiple times between the prisons of Mahabad, Urmia, and Miandoab.
