Kish; Release of Toomaj Salehi After Several Hours of Detention

Toomaj Salehi, a dissident rap singer and one of the prominent figures of the Jina revolutionary movement, was released a few hours after being detained on Kish Island.

According to Kolbarnews, on Thursday, June 19, 2025, Toomaj Salehi was arrested by security forces of the Islamic Republic on Kish Island.
In a video post, the artist stated that the reason for his detention was the publication of several posts on social media that were deemed threatening by security agencies.

Toomaj Salehi has previously been arrested and tried multiple times due to his critical music videos and his political and social activism. He was one of the prominent figures of the nationwide Jina uprising in 2022, who openly opposed the government and, by releasing songs criticizing the political structure, poverty, corruption, and the suppression of civil liberties, became a voice for the protesters.
