Kermanshah: Execution of Reza Rasaei, Detainee from Jina Revolutionary Uprising

Reza Rasaei, a protester detained during the nationwide protests in 2022 in Sahneh, Kermanshah, was executed in Dizelabad Prison, Kermanshah.

According to Kolbarnews, Reza Rasaei, detained during the Jina Revolutionary Uprising in 2022, was executed early this morning, Tuesday, August 6, 2024, in Dizelabad Prison, Kermanshah. Fatemeh Heidari, a member of the families of the martyrs, stated that Rasaei’s execution was carried out without prior notice to the family and without allowing them a final meeting.

In mid-October 2023, Branch Two of the Criminal Court One of Kermanshah Province sentenced Reza Rasaei, a 34-year-old protester and follower of the Yarsan faith, to death on charges of “premeditated murder” of Nader Birami, the head of the Intelligence Office in Sahneh, Kermanshah Province. Eventually, Rasaei’s death sentence was upheld by Branch Seventeen of the Supreme Court, presided over by Judge Mohammad Barani, and was referred to the Execution Branch of the Kermanshah Criminal Court on December 31, 2023.

It should be noted that the request for a retrial by Rasaei was previously rejected by Branch One of the Supreme Court for “lacking legal conditions.”

Nader Birami was killed on November 18, 2022, during a protest in Sahneh, which turned violent due to the attack by security forces on the protesters. About a week after this incident, on December 2, 2022, Reza Rasaei was arrested by the authorities on charges of “participation in the assault” on Nader Birami, solely because of his presence at the protest. In connection with this case, ten other individuals were also detained by security forces, but the security agencies attributed Nader Birami’s death to Reza Rasaei, despite the lack of concrete evidence against him.
