Iranshahr: Military Forces Open Fire on Sukhtbar’s Vehicle

Gunfire from military forces at a Sukhtbar’s vehicle in Iranshahr resulted in damage to a civilian’s parked car.

According to Kolbarnews, on the evening of Wednesday, May 1, 2025, military personnel stationed at the Sarbaz taxi terminal in Iranshahr opened fire on a suspected Sukhtbari vehicle.
The shooting occurred despite the presence of civilians at the scene, including women.

A local Baloch eyewitness reported that agents from the Intelligence Ministry fired indiscriminately, hitting a nearby parked vehicle belonging to a civilian, causing visible damage. After the incident, the agents reportedly left the area without offering any explanation.

The growing frequency of reckless shootings by military forces at vehicles and Baloch civilians has raised significant public concern. Previous similar incidents have resulted in civilian deaths, most notably, the killing of Yousef Shahli-Bar, a 5-year-old child, in the Chah-Jamal area of Iranshahr. His mother was also wounded in that incident, and tragically, lost her unborn child.

Sukhtbari considered one of the unconventional and dangerous occupations that many Baloch people in Balochistan are forced to engage in due to the lack of suitable and stable employment opportunities. Accidents, vehicle overturns, and direct shootings by military and security forces are some of the dangers that threaten the lives of Sukhtbars. According to reports by Baloch activists, in 2024, at least 240 Baloch Sukhtbars lost their lives due to shootings by military forces, traffic accidents, and vehicle fires, while 135 others were injured in these incidents, 19 of whom were children.
