Zohreh Dadras and Zahra Dadras, women’s rights activists in Gilan, have been arrested and transferred to Lakan Prison in Rasht to serve their prison sentences.
According to Kolbarnews, on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, Zohreh Dadras and Zahra Dadras were detained. Abolfazl Ghorbani, the lawyer representing these two women’s rights activists, stated that at 9 AM today, Zohreh (Fatemeh) Dadras was taken into custody without prior summons or notification and transferred to the execution of sentences office. Similarly, Zahra Dadras was arrested at 12 PM today after appearing at the criminal execution branch. Both sisters were then transferred to Lakan Prison in Rasht.
Their case, along with nine other women’s rights activists in Gilan—named Forough Sami-Nia, Sara Jahani, Yasamin Heshdari, Shiva Shah-Siah, Negin Rezaei, Azadeh Chavoshian, Matin Yazdani, Hooman Taheri, and Jelveh Javaheri—was referred to the execution of sentences branch of Rasht Prosecutor’s Office in late June this year.
It is worth noting that the other defendants in this case were also summoned to the Revolutionary Court of Rasht by phone.
These women’s rights activists were separately arrested in Gilan by security forces on August 16 and 17, 2023. Zahra Dadras was released on bail from Lakan Prison in Rasht on September 17 last year, and Zohreh Dadras on October 1 of the same year.
On March 10, 2024, a court session was held to address the charges against these individuals in a joint case at Branch 3 of the Revolutionary Court of Rasht, presided over by Judge Mehdi Rasakhi. Their initial verdicts were issued by the mentioned branch in early April this year.
Their sentences were upheld by Branch 11 of the Gilan Court of Appeals, presided over by Judge Mohammad Sadegh Iran Aqideh, on May 29, 2024. According to the issued verdict, Zohreh Dadras was sentenced to 9 years, 6 months, and 2 days in prison for “forming a group with the intent to disrupt national security and assembly and collusion,” and Zahra Dadras was sentenced to 6 years, 1 month, and 17 days in prison for “membership in a group and assembly and collusion with the intent to disrupt national security.”
Additionally, the other defendants in this case were also sentenced to prison terms. Forough Sami-Nia, Sara Jahani, Yasamin Heshdari, Shiva Shah-Siah, Negin Rezaei, Azadeh Chavoshian, and Matin Yazdani were each sentenced to 6 years, 1 month, and 17 days in prison, while Jelveh Javaheri and Hooman Taheri were each sentenced to one year in prison.
