Gilan: Imprisonment of Several Women’s Rights Activists

A group of women’s rights activists from Gilan have been sent to prison to serve their sentences.

According to Kolbarnews, on the morning of Tuesday, July 13, 2024, Jaleh Javaheri, Forough Saminia, Shiva Shahsiah, Negin Rezaei, and Azadeh Chavoshian, women’s rights activists, were sent to Lakan Prison in Rasht to serve their prison terms.

In early April of this year, Negin Rezaei, Azadeh Chavoshian, Forough Saminia, and Shiva Shahsiah were each sentenced by Branch 3 of the Revolutionary Court of Rasht, presided over by Judge Mehdi Raskhi, to 6 years, 1 month, and 17 days in prison on charges of “assembly and collusion” and “membership in a group.”

Jaleh Javaheri was sentenced to 1 year in prison for “propaganda against the regime.” This sentence was confirmed on May 29, 2024, by Branch 11 of the Gilan Court of Appeals, presided over by Judge Mohammad Sadegh Iran Aqideh.

It is also worth noting that on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, two other activists, Zohreh Dadras and Zahra Dadras, were arrested without prior summons or notification, transferred to the criminal enforcement unit, and then sent to Lakan Prison in Rasht.

On August 16 and 17, 2023, these activists, along with several other civil and women’s rights activists from Gilan, were arrested during raids by intelligence officers at their homes in the cities of Rasht, Bandar Anzali, Lahijan, and Fuman. After about six months of detention, they were temporarily released from Lakan Prison in Rasht on heavy bail until the end of the judicial process.
