Bukan: Confirmation of Mehdi Majidi’s Prison Sentence

The Court of Appeal of West Azerbaijan Province has upheld the prison sentence of Mehdi Majidi, a resident of Bukan.

According to Kolbarnews, based on a ruling delivered to him on Sunday, June 23, 2024, by the Court of Appeal in Urmia, Mr. Majidi has been sentenced to three years in prison for supporting the Israeli government, one year for propaganda against the regime, and eight months for insulting the leadership. 

According to Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, the maximum sentence, which is three years, will be enforceable for Mr. Majidi.

It is noteworthy that previously, the Second Criminal Court of Bukan sentenced Mehdi Majidi, a 25-year-old resident of this city, to three years in prison for “supporting Israel,” one year for “propaganda against the regime,” and one year for “insulting the leadership,” totaling five years of imprisonment. 

With the application of Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, the most severe punishment, which is three years, will be enforceable.

Mehdi Majidi was arrested by security forces in Bukan on Tuesday, November 6, 2023, on the eve of the anniversary of Zhina Amini’s state murder and was transferred to the Intelligence Detention Center in Urmia. Eventually, after 40 days of detention and the completion of the interrogation process, he was transferred to Bukan Prison. After three months of detention, he was temporarily released on a bail of 500 million tomans until the end of the judicial process.
