Solmaz Hassanzadeh, the sister of Mohammad Hassanzadeh, one of the martyrs of the 2022 nationwide protests in Boukan, has been sentenced to one year of imprisonment by the judicial system of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
According to Kolbarnews, Solmaz Hassanzadeh, sister of Mohammad Hassanzadeh, a victim of the “Jina Revolution” protests in Boukan, was recently sentenced to one year of prison by Branch 101 of the Boukan Criminal Court on charges of “propaganda against the regime.” On Tuesday, August 15, 2023, fourteen days after her detention, Solmaz was temporarily released from Urmia prison on a bail of 500 million tomans, pending the completion of her trial. During her detention, she was on a hunger strike for eight days.
On July 31, 2023, Solmaz Hassanzadeh, along with her father, was detained by security forces while attempting to hold a memorial service for her late brother Mohammad on his birthday. The following day, her father, Ahmad Hassanzadeh, was released on bail of four billion tomans, while Solmaz was transferred to Urmia prison.
On Sunday, August 13, 2023, Solmaz’s parents, Ahmad Hassanzadeh and Dayeh Azimeh, were summoned to Boukan’s Intelligence Office and were reportedly threatened, being told that “this time is different from previous times; you will not escape easily and must stop.” The Hassanzadeh family had also been summoned and interrogated by Boukan’s Intelligence Office on September 5, 2023. Previously, Solmaz had been arrested at a security checkpoint on the Boukan-Saqqez road on October 5 of the previous year and was later released.
It should be noted that Mohammad Hassanzadeh, a 28-year-old resident of Boukan, was shot during the nationwide protests in 2022 and succumbed to his injuries on November 16 of that year.
