Nine days after the arrest of Saman Karimi and his wife Farzaneh Rashidi by security forces in Baneh, there is still no information available regarding their condition or whereabouts.
According to Kolbarnews, Saman Karimi and his wife Farzaneh Rashidi remain in detention. The report states that they were arrested by security forces on Sunday, May 26, 2025, in Baneh. Mr. Karimi was violently detained by agents on one of the city’s streets. Security forces later went to the couple’s home, arrested Ms. Rashidi, searched the premises, and confiscated a number of their personal belongings.
No information has yet been released about the reasons for their arrest or where they are being held.
In 2021, Mr. Karimi was sentenced by the Kurdistan Province Court of Appeals to 9 years of discretionary imprisonment. Prior to that, he had been sentenced to death and 11 years in prison, but his death sentence was overturned by the Supreme Court.
Farzaneh Rashidi, his wife, is a student at Payam Noor University in Baneh.
