Balochistan: Stateless Baloch Children Deprived of Education in the New School Year

Children and students without birth certificates in Balochistan have been barred from attending school following the issuance of a new directive by the provincial Department of Education. They are now demanding to be allowed to return to school.

According to Kolbarnews, on Thursday, October 2, 2025, many undocumented children and students in Balochistan have been denied access to education due to this new directive, despite the fact that in previous years they had been able to continue their studies using alternative verification documents such as official letters or affidavits issued by village chiefs and councils.

Since the beginning of the 2025–2026 school year (1404-1405), multiple reports published by Rasanak News Agency have shown that many students have been prevented from continuing their education because they do not have birth certificates.
This ban has been documented in the counties of Saravan, Zabol, Zahedan, Mirjaveh, and Khash in Balochistan, and even in Golestan Province.

According to official government statistics, hundreds of thousands of people in Balochistan and more than one million across Iran lack birth certificates. As a result of the new directive, many Baloch students who were previously able to attend school are now facing serious obstacles and have effectively been excluded from education this year.

The denial of education to these children will have far-reaching consequences for society. It not only endangers their personal future but also contributes to rising poverty, unemployment, and social instability in Balochistan.
This is occurring despite the fact that access to primary education is recognized as a fundamental right of every child, and its denial constitutes a blatant violation of human rights.
