Ahvaz; The execution of Mojahed Kourkour has been carried out

The Judiciary’s media center has announced the execution of Abbas (Mojahed) Kourkour (Korkori), a prisoner held in Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz.

According to Kolbarnews, on Wednesday, Khordad June 11, 2025, Abbas (Mojahed) Kourkour (Korkori) was executed. Reports state that Mr. Kourkour had been sentenced to three counts of the death penalty by the Revolutionary Court of Ahvaz. The Supreme Court had upheld these verdicts.

The charges against him included:
Moharebeh (waging war against God) by brandishing a weapon to threaten lives and spread fear,
Corruption on earth (efsad fel-arz) through committing crimes via shooting with a military weapon,
Forming and joining an armed rebellious group.

In December 2024 – January 2025, he was sentenced to death for the second time by the Revolutionary Court of Ahvaz. However, the Supreme Court overturned the sentence in November–December 2024, and the case was referred back to a parallel court for reconsideration.

Kourkour had initially been sentenced to death by Branch One of the Revolutionary Court of Ahvaz in March–April 2023, based on charges such as moharebeh and efsad fel-arz. He had been held in solitary confinement at Sheiban Prison since December 20, 2022, and was transferred to Ward 8 in early August 2023.

The judiciary claimed Abbas Kourkour was involved in the killing of Kian Pirfalak, a child killed during the nationwide protests of 2022. However, the Pirfalak family rejected these accusations. Kian’s mother publicly stated: “As we were returning home, security forces opened fire on our vehicle.”

The court also accused Kourkour of: Disturbing public order. Inflicting fatal bodily harm resulting in the death of seven individuals, including Kian Pirfalak. Damaging public and private property, and forming and participating in anti-government groups through armed uprising.

The prosecutor of Izeh had previously reported, in January 2023, the opening of judicial cases for 70 protesters in connection with the November 16, 2022, protests in Izeh. On that day, at least seven citizens, including Kian Pirfalak, were killed by gunfire from security forces.

While authorities have insisted the November 25 Izeh incident was a “terrorist act”, eyewitnesses and victims’ families have strongly contradicted the official narrative.
