A Baloch child drowned and lost his life after falling into a hootak in Zarabad County.
According to Kolbarnews, on Friday, May 17, 2024, a Baloch child fell into a hootak in the village of Bandini, a part of Zarabad County, and subsequently drowned.
The six-year-old child was a resident of Bandini village in the Esmail Chat district of central Zarabad County.
As of the time of this report, the identity of the Baloch child has not been confirmed for Kolbarnews.
Hootak, or hootag, is a dug pit used for storing water, primarily for agricultural purposes, but in recent years, due to the water crisis in Balochistan, people have been using hootak water for drinking and household purposes.
According to the Baloch Activists Campaign, in 2023 alone, a total of 98 cases of child rights violations have been recorded in Balochistan. At least 27 children have been killed, 17 children injured, 3 children have drowned, 38 children have been detained, and tragically, one child bride has been killed by gunshot.
