Turkey: Detention and Risk of Deportation for Pariya Khaki to Iran

Pariya Khaki, a Kurdish asylum seeker, has been detained by Turkish police in the Karaköy district of Istanbul and is facing the risk of deportation to Iran.

According to Kolbarnews, on Friday, October 18, 2024, Turkish police in the Karaköy area of Istanbul detained 28-year-old asylum seeker and athlete Pariya Khaki, originally from Sanandaj. She is now facing the threat of deportation to Iran.

The report states that Ms. Khaki had previously been arrested by the Iranian regime’s security forces during the “Jina” revolutionary uprising and was later released on bail. If deported and returned to Iran, she faces the risk of torture and severe legal penalties.
