We inform the public that the death sentence of Sharifeh Mohammadi has been overturned by the Supreme Court. As the Campaign for the Defense of Sharifeh Mohammadi, while welcoming this ruling, we firmly state that we demand Sharifeh Mohammadi be acquitted of all charges and released unconditionally.
We emphasize that the overturning of Sharifeh’s death sentence is the result of the support and solidarity of all those who have stood by us and Sharifeh’s family during this time. We, the members of the Campaign for the Defense of Sharifeh Mohammadi, extend our gratitude to Sharifeh’s lawyers, labor unions, teachers, student groups, retirees in Iran and globally, all human rights organizations, media outlets, and activists across various fields, as well as all individuals and organizations with a conscience who have continuously supported us in this struggle.
In our view, the overturning of Sharifeh’s death sentence, along with her resistance, vigilance, and courage, is the result of our collective struggle and a victory for social movements. It shows that our unity can be the key to our success.
As the Campaign for the Defense of Sharifeh Mohammadi, we cannot hide our anger at the fact that Sharifeh remains in prison. We will not settle for less, and the overturning of her death sentence will not make us overlook the oppression, cruelty, and suffering inflicted on Sharifeh, her child, her mother, her husband, her entire family, and us, the members of this campaign. We will not feel any sense of joy until Sharifeh is released unconditionally, and we will continue to organize and fight for her freedom with determination, clarity, and strength. As we previously announced, in addition to our other efforts, we have filed complaints and cases against the Iranian government in international forums concerning the torture of Sharifeh and the violation of her fundamental rights to organize and free expression, and we will continue to pursue these.
It is expected that once the case is referred to a lower court, the court will dismiss all the baseless charges against Sharifeh and swiftly issue her release. Even then, we will still demand that the prosecutor who issued the indictment, the district attorney who approved it, the judges who issued the initial ruling, and the intelligence agencies in Rasht and Sanandaj that pressured and tortured Sharifeh be held accountable and pay the price for their inhumane and unjust actions. We reaffirm that, with renewed energy and the support of all the campaign’s allies and women’s, labor, social, and human rights activists, we will continue our efforts to restore Sharifeh’s rights, and we will leave no stone unturned in this fight.
