Nasrin Javadi (also known as Azam Khezri Javadi), a labor activist held in Evin Prison, continues to be denied adequate medical care and medical leave despite her deteriorating health.
According to Kolbarnews, Nasrin Javadi suffers from several medical conditions, including osteoporosis and a herniated disc, and has recently experienced significant hearing loss in one ear. Her lawyer informed a domestic newspaper that the Forensic Medicine Organization declared her physically unfit for incarceration. However, this assessment has not been recorded in her case file. The lawyer also noted that Javadi, who has been imprisoned for over two years and four months, has had her requests for leave and conditional release denied.
Nasrin Javadi has previously been deprived of adequate medical care.
In late 2021, she was summoned by the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Tehran to begin serving a five-year prison sentence. Due to her age and health issues, she requires regular medication. Her lawyer submitted a medical certificate to the court requesting she be exempted from prison due to her physical condition. Nevertheless, on July 2, 2022, she was taken to Evin Prison to serve her sentence.
Nasrin Javadi was initially arrested on May 1, 2019, during a protest in front of the Iranian Parliament on International Workers’ Day, along with dozens of other protesters. She was released from Qarchak Prison on bail of 100 million tomans on May 29, 2019.
In August 2019, Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran sentenced her to five years in prison for “assembly and collusion to act against national security,” one year for “propaganda against the regime,” and an additional year for “disturbing public order.” She was also sentenced to 74 lashes, banned from using smartphones, and prohibited from membership in political or social organizations. In a 2020 appeal, the court dropped the charges of “propaganda against the regime” and “disturbing public order,” leaving her with a five-year sentence for “assembly and collusion against national security.”
In early October 2022, Javadi, along with 13 other political prisoners in Evin, faced new charges after refusing to wear handcuffs when transported to court. They were charged with “disturbing public order and comfort, assembly and collusion against the regime, insulting officials, and defying prison guards” by Branch 3 of the Evin Prosecutor’s Office.
Nasrin Javadi, 65, is a retired medical equipment distribution worker, a social security retiree, a founding member of the Social Security Retirees’ Labor Council, and a member of the Free Union of Iranian Workers. She has spent 50 days in solitary confinement.
