Tehran: Sarvenaz Ahmadi Released from Evin Prison

Sarvenaz Ahmadi, a children’s rights activist, was conditionally released from Evin Prison moments ago.

According to Kolbarnews, Sarvenaz Ahmadi was freed on Sunday, December 29, 2024, after serving one year and nine months in prison. Her mother confirmed her release and stated it was granted conditionally.

Sarvenaz Ahmadi had previously been granted medical leave on November 28, 2024, but returned to Evin Prison after completing her treatment.

Sarvenaz Ahmadi was arrested on April 28, 2023, on the eve of International Workers’ Day, along with other labor and union activists at the home of Mohammad Habibi, a teachers’ union activist. She was sentenced by Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court to six years in prison for “assembly and collusion with the intent to disrupt national security” (five years) and “propaganda against the regime” (one year). This sentence was later reduced to three years and six months on appeal.

Sarvenaz Ahmadi had also been detained during the nationwide protests of 2022 and was released on bail on December 7 of that year.

Sarvenaz Ahmadi holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Rehabilitation Sciences in Tehran.
