Sarvenaz Ahmadi, a children’s rights activist imprisoned in Evin Prison, has ended her strike following promises from officials to address her demands.
According to Kolbarnews, on Sunday, October 6, 2024, Sarvenaz Ahmadi ended her strike. Her mother, Sodabeh Belali, announced that Sarvenaz Ahmadi ended her medication strike after receiving a promise from officials to grant her medical leave.
Ahmadi, who suffers from mental health issues and requires medical attention, began a medication strike on September 7, protesting the denial of medical leave.
Sarvenaz Ahmadi, a children’s rights activist, was arrested on April 28, 2023, just before International Workers’ Day, along with several labor and union activists at the home of Mohammad Habibi, a teachers’ union activist. She was transferred to Evin Prison.
She was sentenced by Branch 15 of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court to five years in prison for “gathering and colluding to disrupt national security” and one year for “propaganda against the regime,” totaling six years in prison. Her sentence was later reduced to three years and six months by Branch 36 of the Tehran Court of Appeal.
Ahmadi was also arrested during the nationwide protests in 2022 and was eventually released on bail on December 7 of the same year.
Sarvenaz Ahmadi holds a master’s degree in social work from the University of Rehabilitation Sciences in Velenjak, Tehran.
