Tehran: Kamyar Fakour’s Prison Sentence Converted to Open Prison

Kamyar Fakour, a labor activist, has had his prison sentence converted to an open prison arrangement, meaning he will serve the remainder of his sentence outside of Evin Prison.

According to Kolbarnews, Kamyar Fakour was released from Evin Prison recently, as confirmed by his brother, Maziar Fakour. Kamyar will now serve the rest of his sentence outside the prison walls.

Kamyar Fakour was initially arrested on April 28, 2023, just before International Workers’ Day, alongside other labor and union activists during a gathering at the home of Mohammad Habibi, a teacher’s union activist. He was subsequently transferred to Evin Prison.

Previously, Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court had sentenced Fakour to one year in prison on charges of “propaganda against the regime.” This sentence was later reduced to eight months by Branch 36 of the Tehran Appeals Court.

Additionally, in late August 2023, a suspended two-year prison sentence issued in 2021 for “disturbing public opinion” by Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court was enforced.

Kamyar Fakour has a history of being arrested and imprisoned due to his labor activism.
